Weigela 'Midnight Sun' is a stunning new compact shrub with spectacular foliage. Standing 30-45 cms tall and wide, the compact habit is perfect for garden borders. The glossy, bold orange and red foliage of 'Midnight Sun' adds a striking splash of colour to the garden. Think of the foliage like annual coleus with the bonus of not needing to replant every year. A small show of pink tubular flowers emerges in the spring, although this plant is mostly grown for its stunning foliage.

Growing and Maintenance Tips

Weigela are fast growing, easy care shrubs that are adaptable to a range of soil conditions. They are happiest in average well drained soil in full sun, but will tolerate very light shade. They are  also somewhat tolerant of clay soil. They should be pruned after flowering to shape them. The shrub benefits from a rejuvenation pruning every few years.To do this, cut the oldest, biggest stems down to ground level in late winter. Never remove more than one third of the shrub in any year.
