Growing and Maintenance Tips

Weigela are fast growing, easy care shrubs that are adaptable to a range of soil conditions. They are happiest in average well drained soil in full sun, but will tolerate very light shade. They are  also somewhat tolerant of clay soil. They should be pruned after flowering to shape them. The shrub benefits from a rejuvenation pruning every few years. To do this, cut the oldest, biggest stems down to ground level in late winter. Never remove more than one third of the shrub in any year.
