Cornelian-cherry dogwood, one of the first trees to flower in spring. It is a small, low maintenance tree or large shrub. It thrives in well-drained soil and is a great choice for a smaller property.  Tight clusters of small star-shaped yellow flowers bloom in early spring, covering the tree before  the leaves emerge. Clean, medium-green foliage appears in summer, shortly followed by dark red fruits which ripen in July. The fruit is edible. The leaves develop shades of reddish-purple in fall, and its peeling, exfoliating brown bark gives it four-season interest.The tree is native to Europe and Asia.
