Red Twig Dogwood

Cornus alba ‘Elegantissima’ is a highly ornamental red-twig dogwood valued for four-season interest. Soft grey-green leaves edged in creamy white brighten the landscape through spring and summer, while clusters of small white flowers appear in late spring followed by decorative white berries. As temperatures cool, the foliage may develop pink tones before dropping to reveal vivid red stems that provide outstanding winter colour. Its upright, spreading habit makes it ideal for shrub borders, mass plantings, naturalized areas, and winter landscapes.

Growing and Maintenance Tips

Grow in full sun to part shade in average to moist, well-drained soil. This adaptable shrub tolerates clay soils, urban conditions, and occasional wet sites once established. Best stem colour develops in full sun. Prune hard in early spring, removing up to one-third of the oldest stems to encourage vigorous young shoots with the brightest winter colour. Very tolerant of renovation pruning if size control is needed.
