Ruellia humilis, commonly known as wild petunia, is an attractive native perennial from the eastern and central United States.  Although it is not a member of the petunia family, its flower resembles a petunia in shape.  From late spring through fall, it provides a steady nectar source for butterflies, bees, and other pollinators. It forms tidy, clumping mounds that aren’t aggressive, yet gradually spread to create an attractive flowering mat. It is a perfect choice for naturalized landscapes, prairie gardens, or low-maintenance borders where it  makes and excellent edger or groundcover.
