Heuchera Obsidian
Heuchera Obsidian

Coral Bells

Heuchera 'Obsidian' is one of the best of the dark leaved Heucheras. It has shiny, broad rounded leaves that are very glossy like black satin. The leaf undersides are deep purple and exhibit the same glossiness. Vigour and consistent performance make it a standout. The flowers are borne on tall scapes with smoky purple buds that open to cream flowers. Heuchera 'Obsidian' is easy to pair with brightly coloured flowers and foliage in containers or mixed borders.

Growing and Maintenance Tips

Heucheras are easy care perennials. They like rich, well drained soil with a neutral pH. They dislike wet soils especially in the winter. Amend the soil with organic matter to enrich it but do not add peat moss which they dislike. Situate Heucheras where they will receive morning sun and shade over the hottest part of the day. They will survive in full sun as long as there is constant moisture. Heucheras are evergreen so do not cut them back in the fall. Clean up tattered foliage in the spring. They will benefit from a winter mulch to prevent them from heaving out of the ground due to the winter freeze thaw cycle. Heucheras are somewhat salt tolerant so they can be used along pathways where salt might accumulate.
