False Indigo

Baptisia 'Vanilla Cream' was selected for its shorter more compact habit. Its well branched rounded habit makes it a choice plant for a smaller garden. In the spring the foliage emerges with bronze tones and then becomes an attractive grey green. From late spring to early summer long scapes of pastel yellow buds open to creamy vanilla coloured flowers. The flowers are followed by attractive seed pods that stay on the plant for the rest of the summer. This lovely selection will work in a mixed or perennial border and will be a great companion to Peonies.

Growing and Maintenance Tips

Baptisia is a low maintenance perennial that is extremely disease resistant. It is adaptable to a wide range of soil types but prefers average to dry, well drained soil in full sun. It can handle a couple of hours of shade but will be floppy in too much shade. It is very tap rooted and, once established, should not be disturbed. Old foliage should be cut down in the fall because the plant is unattractive once frost hits. Dividing this plant is not recommended.
