Prairie Dropseed

About This Grass

Sporobolus heterolepis is a lovely native prairie grass with a very soft fountain-like look. The foliage is very fine, almost threadlike and is a rich green. It turns golden orange in the fall, fading to light brown in the winter. The fragrant pinkish brown flowers, that smell like Coriander' appear atop very fine, arching stems. This grass works well in large rock gardens, native plant gardens, and as an accent for foundation planting and borders.
