Thuja occidentalis ‘DeGroot’s Spire’ has it all: habit, color and texture. It combines a narrow, columnar form with thick, ruffled, medium green foliage and branchlets that occasionally twist and layer over one another. This is a seedling selection from Sheridan Nursery in Toronto. Use it as a single exclamation point, in a grouping or lined up for tall screening in tight spaces. It is hardy, durable and adaptable to many conditions.

Growing and Maintenance Tips

Cedars are easy to grow and adaptable to a wide range of soil conditions. Amend the soil by adding compost and ensure that they receive regular watering because cedars need an evenly moist soil. Mulching the root zone will also help to keep the soil moist. They will tolerate partial sun but too much shade will make them lanky and open. They tolerate shearing to shape them. This is best done in the spring before active growth begins.
