Japanese White Pine

Silvery blue on one side, green on the other, the long-enduring, straight needles of Pinus parviflora ‘Aoi’ give the naturally sculpted, upright tree a lush look.  Sturdy branches display attractive silver-grey bark and loads of small cones. This slender architectural tree makes a dramatic feature and contributes an Asian aesthetic to the landscape. Provide full sun and good drainage.

Growing and Maintenance Tips

The  growth habit of 'Aoi' is irregular and upright but it can be easily maintained in a tight, compact form through yearly candle pruning. Most sources list it as a Zone 5 but it has proven to be hardy in our area as long as it is located out of open windswept sites. It requires well drained soil in full sun.
