Visit the nursery during our bloom time from late May until early July.  We have many other varieties of peonies that can be ordered while in bloom and picked up in September. Many of the varieties listed below are also available in pots at the nursery throughout the gardening season.

An investment in a good peony will guarantee a lifetime of bloom with the possibility of division to produce another clump after five years. Although bloom period may be considered short, the foliage forms a backbone of green for the summer border. Because peonies will be left in place for a long time the site must be well prepared and enriched with lots of compost.

Each year we have added new single and double varieties to our peony collection.  Our gardens continue to mature making the show each spring even more beautiful and offering the opportunity to divide some of the established clumps that we have and offer them for sale.

All peonies are shipped in early September. Please order them separately from other plants unless you want all your plants shipped in September.   Many varieties will be available in the spring, in pots, at the nursery. It is possible to ship some varieties in the spring but they must be shipped in pots, which increases the cost of shipping.  If you are interested in spring shipment please contact us.  All plants have a minimum of three eyes per division. Detailed cultural instructions are available upon request.

PAEONIA SUFFRUTICOSA [TREE PEONIES ]

The common name of  "Tree Peony" refers to cultivars and hybrids from Paeonia suffruticosa. They are colourful and lush shrubs for the garden.  We have had good success growing tree peonies here as have many of our gardening friends.  They have been very hardy here but the new spring growth is  susceptible to frost damage so they should be planted in a protected spot or covered in the event of a heavy frost if they have already leafed out.  Tree peonies grow into deciduous shrubs with woody trunks and branches. They grow best in  full sun to light shade and well drained soil. Keep them well watered and protect the fragile flowers from strong winds. Plants will grow to 100 to 130cm tall and almost as wide with a handsome branching habit.

These roots are imported from Japan and will flower in one to two years after transplanting. They will be available in pots at the nursery and can be shipped in the spring.  If you are ordering them for shipping there is an additional shipping charge of $2 per plant because they must be shipped in a pot with a complete root ball and this is quite heavy. However when carefully packed and shipped in this manner they travel very well.  Please order these plants early because they are all in limited supply.
