About This Hosta

Hosta ‘Emperor’s New Clothes’ is a statement-making hosta and one of the most distinctive introductions from the Walters Gardens breeding program in years. This sport of ‘Empress Wu’ offers a more compact habit while retaining impressive presence, with thick, deeply veined leaves measuring about 23 × 15 cm (9 × 6 in) and outstanding leaf substance for excellent slug resistance. In spring, the foliage emerges mostly white, then gradually develops unusual green flecking that increases in size and number as the season progresses, creating a dynamic, ever-changing look. The plant forms a bold, architectural mound ideal as a focal point, anchor, or backdrop in shade gardens. Near-white to pale lavender flowers appear in early to mid-summer.
