Clematis

‘Jackmanii Superba' is considered to be an improved version to the long time garden favorite Clematis 'Jackmanii'. It features a more profuse bloom and more rounded and slightly larger flowers.  Velvet purple flowers (to 5" diameter) cover the vine with bloom from late spring to early fall (June to September). Flowers are followed by silky seed heads.

Growing and Maintenance Tips

Many gardening books tell you to plant clematis with their "head in the sun and their feet in the shade". The truth it that clematis will grow well in full sun but they need constant moisture. Shading the roots with mulch or shallow rooted plants will help to maintain the moisture in the soil. Clematis also need an extensive root run so it is necessary to dig a large hole and amend it with lots of compost. It is a Type 3 clematis; each spring it should be pruned back to strong buds within 30 cms of the ground, as it flowers on new wood from the current season.
