Smooth Hydrangea

Hydrangea 'White Dome' is a very hardy, vigourous hydrangea that will reward gardeners with clouds of big, lacy white blooms. The dome shaped flowers are 15-25 cms in size and seem to float about the plant. If left on the plant the dried flower heads have fantastic winter effect too. 'White Dome' is a North American native with rich dark green leaves and strong leaves which hold the plant upright even after a heavy rain storm. It is an upright, freely branching shrub with a rounded shape. It blooms on new wood so it will produce flowers even after a severe winter. The big flowers are excellent for cutting fresh as well as drying. Use this plant as a back drop in woodland gardens, in shrub borders or as a specimen plant.

Growing and Maintenance Tips

Hydrangea 'White Dome' is a low maintenance shrub for partial shade but it will tolerate full sun with constant moisture. It is intolerant of drought with foliage browning off in periods of prolonged drought. The bloom occurs on new wood so the plant can be cut back hard in the spring or just pruned to shape and remove winter damage. It is adaptable to a wide range of soil conditions.
