Growing and Maintenance Tips

Red Twig Dogwoods are easy to grow in a wide range of soil and light conditions. It will grow in areas where it only receives a few hours of  direct sun but the stem colour will be less intense. It will also grow in areas where the soil remains wet all year round. The best red colour appears on one and two year old stems; older stems will turn corky and brown. To maintain a colourful display cut out one-third of the oldest stems every year. Early spring is the best time to prune.
