Japanese Barberry

Berberis 'Gentry' is an easy care shrub whose colourful foliage and fine texture make it an exceptionally versatile landscape specimen. The attractive burgundy foliage is very dense and fills in right to the ground so the plant can be located in the foreground without fear of "bare knees". The small oval leaves turn brighter red in the fall. In the spring very small yellow flowers are produced. By the fall the branches are covered with ornamental red drupes (a type of fruit) which persist throughout the winter giving this shrub four seasons of interest. The drupes also provide food for birds.
