This coneflower is native to prairies and savannas with a range into Canada. It is a tall slender plant with rough leaves and stems. The daisy like flowers have soft yellow rays that flutter in the breeze. The central disk, or cone starts out green and turns brown as it matures. It blooms profusely from early summer to early fall, and survives heat, drought and flooding. Ut pairs well with other prairie plants and grasses.
Yellow Coneflower prefers clay loam to sandy loam soils in full sun and is adaptable to dry to moist conditions and various soils. It is very easy to grow in full sun to partial shade. It is drought and poor soil tolerant so don't overwater or over-fertilize.
