Old Fashioned Bleeding Hearts

Dicentra 'Valentine' is a new colour in a much loved, old fashioned perennial. The bright red, puffy heart shaped flowers with a white tip dangle from deep red, arching stems. When the lovely, finely dissected foliage is emerging in the spring it has a purple cast to it. This variety quickly forms a robust clump. This variety will go summer dormant so situate carefully.

Growing and Maintenance Tips

Dicentra is a woodland plant that likes rich, organic soil that is moist but well drained. At planting time amend the soil with compost. This Dicentra frequently goes summer dormant. We situate it toward the back of the border where it will be hidden once the large leaved hostas and other background perennials appear. It can be divided in early fall.
