Delphiniums are great favourite of ours but they can be difficult to grow. The New Milleniumâ„¢ series of Delphiniums, which were developed in New Zealand have enhanced heat and humidity tolerance, coupled with excellent cold tolerance. New Milleniums also have excellent form, a vigorous growth habit, and rich, vibrant colour. Resistant to deer and rabbits, this variety is also quite mildew-resistant as long as it is situated in full sun with good air circulation. 'Dwarf Stars' is very compact, growing no more than 80 cm tall and needing just 45 cm of elbow room. 'Dwarf Stars' is a mix of colours. Buy them in bloom if you are looking for a specific colour.

Growing and Maintenance Tips

Delphiniums are fussier than a lot of other perennials. They require rich, well drained soil that has been amended with compost. The soil pH should be neutral to alkaline. They grow best in full sun. Although the Millenium series have stronger stems than older varieties, we still recommend staking to prevent damage from heavy wind and rain. If cut or deadheaded promptly after the first bloom expect an other show in late summer and early fall!
