Pigsqueak

An early season bloomer, 'Once Upon a Dream' features  tall flower scapes of carmine pink flowers. Dark red stems carry interest down to the canopy of deep green leaves. Foliage contains a mixture of bronze and burgundy highlights. Bergenia can grow in full sun to shade but the best location is morning sun and afternoon shade. Bergenia is a versatile landscape plant.  It makes a durable, evergreen groundcover, but it can also be used in containers and rock gardens. It can sofren the edges of hardscape and also works well as an edging or filler plant in flower borders. This plant gets its common name Pig Squeak from the sound the leaf makes when rubbed between two fingers.

Growing and Maintenance Tips

Bergenia likes rich, well drained soil enriched with compost. It is usually grown in part shade but will tolerate full sun if kept moist. Clean up old foliage in the spring just as new growth starts to keep the plant looking neat.
