Well known landscape architect Wolfgang Oehme found muskingumensis 'Oehme' a beautiful selection from the native grass, muskingumensis, in his own garden. The leaves spread out horizontally from the stems creating a palm tree like effect. 'Oehme' emerges in the spring medium green in colour but it gradually develops a fine yellow edge. It enjoys rich soil and works well in a woodland garden where it provides foliage contrast with more broad leaved plants and a vertical accent.
Carex muskingumensis 'Oehme' is easy to grow in full sun to partial shade in average to wet soil. It is native to swampy areas so it does well even in areas that have standing water. Cut it to the ground in the fall or early spring.
