'Minikin' has small, wide, green, blunt-tipped needles that sit at different angles along reddish brown shoots. They occasionally expose their silvery-white undersides to give Tsuga diversifolia ‘Minikin’ a special sparkle. Slow growing and globe shaped when young, it will become more vigorous and oval shaped. It thrives in many situations being tolerant of full sun to shady conditions when planted in well-drained, moist soil.
'Minikin' is best situated in part shade where it is protected from strong drying winds and hot afternoon sun. It will grow in average to moist soil conditions but will not tolerate wet sites. It will adapt to a wide range of soil conditions but prefers acidic soil. It should not be allowed to dry out and will benefit from a mulch to conserve soil moisture. It is fast growing maintaining a broadly upright form.
