Tsuga canadensis Dawsoniana

Canadian Hemlock

Extremely attractive tufts of short, bright-green needles give the gracefully arching shoots of this compact, multi-stemmed plant a dense look. In the spring the foliage is bright lime green gradually turning more deep green. It grows slowly, but attains a full, bushy form. It is among the most attractive of the wide-leafed Hemlock cultivars.

Growing and Maintenance Tips

Tsuga 'Dawsoniana' is best situated in part shade where it is protected from strong drying winds and hot afternoon sun. It will grow in average to moist soil conditions but will not tolerate wet sites. It will adapt to a wide range of soil conditions but prefers acidic soil. It should not be allowed to dry out and will benefit from a mulch to conserve soil moisture.
