Pinus pumila ‘Blue Dwarf’ was selected for a spring display of brightly coloured cones that contrast with the blue green colour of the needles. It produces a dense load of twisted needles and a horizontal, spreading habit that is unique among Pinus pumila cultivars. Native to extremely cold, exposed regions of northeastern Asia, the tough constitution of this pine stands up to harsh conditions.
'Blue Dwarf' grows in moist, well-drained loams in full sun. It is tolerant of a wide range of soils, including both sandy and clay soils. Avoid poorly-drained wet soils. Avoid locating this conifer in a hot situation.
