Weigela

Weigela 'Spilled Wine' is a compact shrub with a spreading habit. The rich dark burgundy purple leaves are dense and intensely coloured all season long. By late summer in full sun the foliage will look almost black. The hot magenta-pink flowers make a striking contrast to the dark foliage. This is a small shrub that can be tucked into any sunny spot where you need a blast of colour. It is lovely as the center piece of a big container or incorporated into mixed borders.

Growing and Maintenance Tips

Weigela 'Spilled Wine' is an easy care shrub that is adaptable to a range of soil conditions. It is happiest in average well drained soil in full sun, but will tolerate very light shade. It is also tolerant of clay soil. It should be pruned after flowering to shape the plant. It is fast growing and very trouble free. It is an excellent container plant but remove the plant in the fall and winter it in the ground.
