Golden Shadows Pagoda Dogwood

'Golden Shadows' Pagoda Dogwood is a stunning and rarely available selection of a native North American species. It is a multi-stemmed shrub which features almost horizontally tiered branches giving it a unique "Japanese Garden" look. The large heart-shaped leaves are bright yellow dotted with an irregular green thumbprint. The new growth is often flushed with hues of reddish-orange. Attractive lacy white flowers are produced in spring, followed by navy blue berries in mid summer. Site selection is essential because, to grow well, it needs a sheltered site with rich, well drained soil in part shade. Our specimens are situated  in our woodland garden in partial sun.

Growing and Maintenance Tips

Cornus 'Golden Shadows' is at its best when planted in rich, well drained acidic soil. It will no tolerate wet sites especially in the winter. Filtered shade or morning sun will provide enough light to produce good foliage colour with the danger of leaf scorch. It is slow growing and rarely needs pruning. Branches are produced almost to ground level so it can be pruned at the base if you want to plant under it.
