Beardtongue

Penstemon 'Dark Towers' should be in every sunny garden. It is a clump forming perennial with beautiful dark wine purple foliage that keeps its colour throughout the summer heat. The masses of tubular, lavender pink flowers are carried on strong, upright stems in early summer. It is easy care, requiring nothing more than a trim after flowering. Locate it toward the front of the border, because after flowering, the rosettes are less than 30 centimeters tall.

Growing and Maintenance Tips

Penstemon 'Dark Towers' is easy to grow in full sun in rich, well drained soil. Avoid wet or poorly drained soils and soils with low fertility. After flowering you can cut the spent blooms back and enjoy the lovely foliage colour. We do not cut this plant back because we find the stems and seed heads very attractive. A mulch will help to retain soil moisture and keep the leaves clean.
