| GROWING HOSTAS IN POTS | |
|---|---|
| Hostas do very well as container plants. If the pot is up on feet there is the added advantage that the leaves are safe from the reach of slugs. We find that the plants do best if you plant them in a soil designed for containers that is enriched with a little compost. Every fall just before freeze up remove the root ball from the pot and dig a hole for it somewhere in a sheltered spot in the garden. Plant the root ball as you would any plant you are moving. Cover the crown of the plant with an extra inch of soil. Mulch well with leaves or other organic material. In the spring when the plant starts to show shoots, remove the root ball and return it to your pot. An easy and inexpensive way to have a lush container for a shady area! | |
